Cons

  • The headrest is very well designed

  • extremely comfortable
  • You can sit cross legged and move a bit with no hard edges and surfaces.
  • Seat cushion is thin especially in the back/tailbone region.

Steelcase Gesture is one of the best looking chairs out there with modern styling and lots of color options,it is easy to make this chair a centrepiece of attention.
Most of the controls are on the right side, on the left side, there are no features. I am using this chair from the last 5 months for 8 hours per day and I can say confidently that this chair is the most comfortable chair I ever sat on.

What I like the most is this chair force you to sit in an idle posture because it has aggressive lumbar support. I always prefer to sit on a pretty aggressive or firm lumbar support which the Gesture provides perfectly.  I have some friends who told me that they do not like the lumbar support as they do not like forced or aggressive lumbar support. From this I understand that people who like this chair are the one who likes to sit in an ergonomic position.

I love the seat cushion as well, it is firm and comfortable, however I have heard some negative reviews for the seat cushion that it has not adequate cushioning but who wants living room couch style cushioning in a desk chair. If you are someone who is not a big fan of mesh chair, then you are going to love this seat cushion. Also, the seat is huge, if you want some additional room you can just roll the knob on the right side to widen the seat and sit cross legged comfortably considering the flexibility of arms.

This chair is one of the most expensive chair of Steelcase with plenty of colour options available. The orange colour is the top notch. I have received many compliments for this colour. Don’t feel afraid to invest this much amount on an office chair, because your health is your wealth and this chair will definitely help you in maintaining good posture and removing any back pain.

I can easily move the arms, wrists and elbows in any direction- up and down, forward/back, side to side and pivot whether typing, gaming or relaxing. Easily adjustable arms in every direction is one of the most attractive feature of this Gesture chair. Its arms are designed for different types of postures.

Assembly-I do not like to assemble a chair however this chair comes almost assembled, I just needed to unbox it and I must say this chair is extremely heavy. I am not very healthy so I needed my friend to help me in unboxing it. To manoeuvre this chair on carpet, I really need someone as this is very heavy.

You have 2 options for this, one chair with headrest is for $1706 on Amazon at the time of writing this review and the other one without headrest is for $1510. I have heard many positive feedback for the headrest, I opted for the one with headrest. The headrest is amazing in terms of movability, flexibility and ease of control but not great for short people.

You can adjust everything in the chair from the seat depth to seat height to armrests, making this chair comfortable for your posture is an easy task. Steelcase has a knob on the right side that you can easily turn to adjust the seat pan/seat depth for shorter or longer legs. In other chairs the way we adjust the seat depth is not very cool, but I found this function in this chair a breeze.

This chair is worth the cost. Every aspect of the chair feels premium including the frame, foam padding, upholstery, castors, levers and all the moving parts. One of my friend owned this chair for a decade now and When I saw his chair it was still looking new that impressed me a lot. The chair itself is made from hard plastic, steel and breathable upholstery. The fabric is warm and really thick and dense you may get warm in this fabric quickly if you are habitual to sit in a Mesh chair which is not a case with me.

This chair can be purchased with or without lumbar support. I purchased this without lumbar support and the built in curvature without the additional support fits me well. I found the backrest supportive and you have four tilt limiting stops to choose between.

when buying directly from Steelcase, the Gesture will come with a lifetime warranty on the main framework, while you get a 12-year warranty for all moving parts and the surface material.

This chair has 2 types of wheels available. One is for carpet and the other one is for hard floors. I choose the one made for hard floor as I do not use carpet in my room.

When I was researching for this chair,I found that thousands of people and how they sit were studied to design this chair.

Most of the people who likes Steelcase are the ones who likes aggressive lumbar support, if you do not like to sit on a chair with this type of lumbar support, you are most likely to not like this chair.

Also on this chair you might get overheated because of the thick fabric used and if you are used to a Mesh chair.

If you are someone who sits on a chair for 8 hours everyday then investing in this chair is like investing in your overall health. This chair is worth the investment you will thank yourself in future that this chair saved your back. However if you do not use much your chair and sit on this occasionally you can look out for the other budget chair options. The downside I would like to highlight here is it is pretty expensive, not everyone can afford this chair, Also not everyone wants to spend over $1000 on a chair
